For example, children can use a bowl as a saucepan on the hob to cook the eggs, then use their developing fine motor skills to place the egg into the egg cup and deliver to their peers sat by the table with a carefully poured cup of tea using the sturdy wooden tea pot and tea cups.

Once breakfast is finished, children can transport the washing up to the sink and imitate washing up. These repeated experiences develop schemas, including transporting and containing, helping them build knowledge through active, hands-on play. These schemas develop coordination, control and increasing independence while building an understanding of everyday routines.
